Jordi Alba has spoken out against some of the online criticism the left-back has received. Part of the reason Lionel Messi was forced to leave Barcelona is that Alba didn’t take a pay cut sooner, critics have said.
However, Alba was sure to speak up and defend herself against such nonsense. It’s good when it comes out of a 4-2 victory in the opener.
“Nobody called me before Euro 2020, that’s wrong,” he said.
“When the club talks to me, I’m ready. I come from here, I spend my whole life in Barcelona. That my commitment is called into question hurts me very much.
“Since the president hasn’t spoken specifically about this yet, I guess he will speak up and speak the truth.”
“My lawyers have spoken to the club.”

The full-back has also made it clear that he believes a lot of lies have been printed about him recently.
“My lawyers spoke to the club. Pique’s was concluded first simply because of timing, but the will of all captains has always been as it should be.
“Lies annoy me, they tire me. I can take a lot, but I am suffering for my family and the things they have to hear.
“Besides being the best ever, Leo [Messi] was the one who understood me the best, so imagine how much effort I would have made to keep him.
“This is not true [that Messi left because of a pay cut the captains rejected]… the Messi things were separated from the captains, between the club and him.
I just have to say it’s a bit wild if it’s true that no one thought to ask him for a pay cut before Euro 2020. Great Barca planning!
