Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently got to try Valve’s new Steam Deck handheld gaming machine, and he’s a fan, adding that it performs both Xbox and xCloud games well.

Spencer said he recently visited Valve Software and spoke with company officials, including Valve founder Gabe Newell, to discuss the Steam Deck. “After having had mine for most of the week, I can say it’s a really good device,” Spencer said. “I play with me on the go, the screen size, the controls are great. Play Halo and [Age of Empires] it feels good, xCloud is working well. “

Spencer trying out the Steam Deck doesn’t necessarily foreshadow a partnership with Valve. After all, as the head of Xbox, Spencer undoubtedly has a lot of friends in high places and himself is keen to keep up with the latest developments in the industry. He also sang the praises of the PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch. It’s still nice to see.

And from a business standpoint, the Steam Deck could essentially become another way to access Xbox games via download or streaming, which is good news for Xbox.

The Steam Deck will launch in December. For more, check out GameSpot’s explainer piece, Nintendo Switch Vs. Steam Deck: Which Handheld is Right For You?
