Halle Berry was named in a lawsuit brought by ex-UFC fighter Cat Zingano, who seeks damages amid the claims.

Zingano, 39, said the 55-year-old Oscar-winning actress met her in July 2019 about the project, according to legal documents reviewed by TMZ.

The professional fighter said Berry has said she would like her to be involved in the film – which marks Berry’s debut as a director – and keep her schedule open for the film’s production.

Zingano said he was subsequently offered a lucrative fight with the UFC and Berry told him to forgo the fight due to factors related to the liability issues of the film’s insurers.

Zingano said she chose the film over the fight – and that it was released by the UFC afterwards – which led to Berry removing her from the film, saying she needed fighters with UFC.

Zingano said in court documents that Berry subsequently stopped communicating with her.

Berry spoke with Entertainment Weekly last week about the film, which was originally presented with Blake Lively in mind, but Lively “decided in her day that it wasn’t for her.”

Berry recalled the project: “They gave me the screenplay and I loved the story, but it was written for a white Irish Catholic woman in her twenties. I couldn’t get it out. out of my mind, so I thought, is there any way this could be reinvented for someone like me?

“Because I think I have a point of view that might work – speaking of a middle aged black woman, someone fighting for one last chance rather than another chance.”

She added: “When you’re young we all have a chance, it’s a dime a dozen. But when you’re at a certain stage in life, it becomes something more impactful and meaningful, isn’t- isn’t it? ”
