Shang-Chi Premiere confirms the return of the MCU [Spoiler]
Warning: there is a minor Shang-Chi spoiler ahead!
At last night’s premiere for Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, fans immediately recognized Ben Kingsley on the red carpet. Kingsley previously played the fake Mandarin, Trevor Slattery, in Iron man 3. However, Shang-Chi presents the “real” Mandarin, Wenwu (Tony Leung). Now it looks like the two Mandarins can share the screen in Shang-Chi.
ComicBook reports that Marvel Studios has confirmed Kingsley will reprise his role as Trevor in Shang-Chi. Plus, it seems to match Trevor’s last appearance in the short, Marvel One-Shot: Hail to the King.
In Iron man 3, Trevor was an actor hired by Aldrich Killian to play the Mandarin. In Hello king, Trevor’s exploits also made him a hero to his fellow inmates at Seagate Penitentiary. However, Jackson Norriss, a reporter who was sent to interview Trevor, turned out to be an agent of the Ten Rings. Jackson also told Trevor that his master, the Mandarin, was real; and that he was getting Trevor out of prison to face the Mandarin’s wrath for stealing his name and reputation.
If Trevor is back Shang-Chi, then the Mandarin must not have killed him. But it will be a few weeks before we find out why Trevor is still alive.
Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings hits theaters on Friday, September 3.
