Wild, the PlayStation exclusive adventure game announced in 2014, has reportedly been canceled after years of public silence around the project.
It is according to the journalist Jeff Grubb, who affirmed Thursday in a video Giant Bomb (paywall) that the title of Michel Ancel (Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil) had ceased its production.
“I can confirm that the game is completely over. There’s no more Wild… Wild is dead, ”said Grubb.
He adds: “I think that Michel Ancel has abandoned the project… he is no longer working on it, the project has stopped. Perhaps the team that worked there was looking to stick together and work on other projects.
“I don’t know what happened with that, but they were like ‘we’re not working on [Wild] more, but we’ve got a lot of talent here, so maybe we can work on some stuff ”.
The LinkedIn page of the developer of Wild Wild sheep studio displays nearly 50 current employees of the developer and vacancies for other positions.
Wild was announced during the PlayStation Gamescom presentation in 2014. The on-stage demo showed a procedurally generated prehistoric world, in which players would control a human shaman who could inhabit and control animals in order to fight other tribes and to solve puzzles.
Since then, little has been seen of Wild. In 2015, the game was presented again during Paris Games Week, and more recently, designer Michel Ancel released images of the game in 2017.
However, three years after the Wild update, Ancel announced his retirement from the video game industry in September 2020.
At the time, Ancel claimed that his decision to pull out of the gaming industry would not affect the development of Wild or his other project, Beyond Good & Evil 2, which is officially still in production at Ubisoft.
“For several months now, the teams have been autonomous and the projects are progressing really well. Beautiful things to see soon, “he said at the time.
