Google has already ditched the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a with 5G

Google has just released the excellent and relatively inexpensive Pixel 5a, and the company has already given us a preview of the upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro as well. So you could easily guess that the Pixel 5 isn’t long for this world, and you’d be right. According to a press release received by Digital trends, Google has finished selling the Pixel 5 as well as the Pixel 4a 5G.

“With our current forecast, we expect the Google Store in the United States to sell the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 in the coming weeks after the launch of the Pixel 5a (5G). The Pixel 5a (5G) ) is a great option for customers and offers valuable hardware upgrades over the Pixel 4a (5G), all at a lower price, ”Google told Digital trends.

On Google’s store in the US, both phones are currently out of stock, meaning the only Pixel phones currently available are the Pixel 5a (which does not arrive until August 26) and the Pixel 4a, which does not have 5G. And since the Pixel 5a is only sold in the US and Japan, at least for newbies, Google will be without a 5G-capable phone in other markets until the Pixel 6 arrives.

This situation will likely be corrected soon – Google announced the Pixel 5 on September 30 of last year, so it seems likely that we will also have an official reveal of the Pixel 6 in the next month or so. Google’s Pixel phones never really sold like gangbusters, but it’s still a bit of a surprise to see them pull the Pixel 5 so quickly into areas where they don’t see the 5a. But given that Google is already rolling out the successor to the Pixel 5, there’s a good chance most people will wait that extra month to get the company’s next flagship. As the first phone with Google’s custom silicon, it’s certainly a lot more intriguing than the somewhat stale Pixel 5, anyway.
