Miami Dolphins’ QB Tua Tagovailoa impressive in pre-season win over Atlanta Falcons

Last week, when Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw a critical interception in the end zone, everyone had something to say about it. It was everywhere on social media, TV, radio and podcasts. There were even fans who were still destroying the tape midweek.

However, the question I was wondering was whether these same experts would talk about Tua – hadn’t he started that expensive interception against Chicago? Would those same people be talking about Tua Tagovailoa if he came out and finished, say, 16 of 23 for 183 yards and a touchdown?

Would they then talk about how impressive he was as he orchestrated one streak after another?

Probably not.

Well, if they don’t, I will.

Yes, that was against some of the Atlanta Falcons substitutes, who don’t necessarily have the most touted defense as it is. And yes, I have to reiterate that this is the only preseason, so try to keep in mind that most teams will be very different in the first week of the NFL regular season.

Nonetheless, what I saw from Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins’ offense against Atlanta was impressive. George Godsey and Eric Studesville qualified a good game, even in the preseason, and put their players in a position to play. At this point, it was up to Tua Tagovailoa to send the ball to his playmakers in space, which he seeks to do with every play.

In Miami’s opening practice, Myles Gaskin looked like a real star carrying the team on his back like Hodor, to top it off with a one-yard touchdown run. (Gaskin also had a touchdown on reception.) The offensive line looked a lot better, Mike Gesicki continued to make plays, and rookie wide receiver Jaylen Waddle finally got involved.

But in the end, it was Tua Tagovailoa – the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback – who literally took control of the offense, as Myles Gaskin pointed out after the game when asked questions. on the ability of the offensive to operate at a rapid pace.

“Yes, that was an important point this week. I think Tua (Tagovailoa) kind of brought him home for the rest of the offense. It’s one thing to hear it from (head coach Brian Flores) Flo. Obviously you want to do what the coach says, but when the boss, the quarterback of the squad, leads the way, everyone really wants to listen. I think it looked good for us just to put the ball on quickly, make sure you keep them on their toes, stuff like that, but I think we did a good job.

Tua looked in control of the offense and understood what the defense was giving him. But, most impressive was his ability to move around in the pocket. Tagovailoa looked like a ballerina at times, avoiding pressure as he moved in and out of traffic. Plus, he looked balanced in the pocket, going through his progressions.

And who can forget its accuracy, which once again reminds us of what we fell in love with in Tuscaloosa? Tagovailoa looked as good as advertised. He may have even watched #elite very good sometimes.
