NAU Communications would like to present the new and improved university newsletter, NAU magazine– the official source of information for Northern Arizona University. This update is more than just a new look, it’s a way to celebrate and educate our campus community through a variety of new features and updated classics.

NAU Communications, the department behind NAU magazine, is a small but powerful team made up of Heidi Toth, deputy director of communications and extraordinary writer; Carly Banks, communications manager and our expert videographer; and McKenzie McLoughlin, Deputy Director, Communications and our talented photographer. We share two passions: communicating university news in the best and most creative way possible (which will hopefully get people excited to read our newsletter) and traveling (this year we will be going to Egypt, Belize, Spain and Morocco). We are delighted to launch NAU magazine who, like the old one AAU News, will highlight the research, programs and departments of the university, but introduce a fun and easy-to-digest tone, engaging multimedia including videos and photos and highlight the voices of the NAU, giving you a platform for talking about what’s important and relevant.

New news features

  • Assemble it in a minute—This recurring (approx.) Minute-long video series will spotlight the folks at NAU. Whether you want to explain your research or a recent project, the book you just published or the sports team you are involved with, we encourage you to tell us about it, provided you can adapt it in a minute. Would you like to be featured in our video series? Contact us with your Fit it in a Minute idea.
  • Lifestyles of loggers—A fun and less formal outlet to showcase the personal side of our professors, staff and students. From cooking videos to teaching the logging community how to DIY your favorite NAU related craft, we hope to add a more engaging element to our news by highlighting non-news. Do you have an idea to present for our lifestyle section? Contact us with your idea for a lumberjack lifestyle.
  • Views of NAU—This is your chance to add your voice to the dialogue unfolding in Flagstaff, across the state and around the world. Whether you want to get personal by sharing your coming out story or apply your expertise to solving a global issue, we invite you to contribute to the conversation. Interested in sharing your voice? Contact us with your Views from NAU idea.
  • Flagstaff humans—Our version of The humans of New York, this is a question-and-answer session featuring members of our community in their own words. Learn about the stories of your neighbors and the people who make Flagstaff extraordinary. Want to share your story or suggest someone to highlight? Contact us with your Humans of Flagstaff idea.

We’re still releasing the classics – Spotlights, NAU Announcements, NAU Events, Research, and Awards – so keep checking out submit your new tips to the NAU communications team.

We are delighted to hear from you and look forward to sharing your story ideas. We hope you are as excited as we are NAU magazine.
