The Vikings have reunited with longtime defensive end Everson Griffen this offseason.
But earlier this offseason, Griffen slammed the team’s franchise quarterback Kirk Cousins, hinting that Minnesota coach Mike Zimmer didn’t want Cousins ββto sign with the team originally. .
Griffen met the media recently and addressed the situation:
βI haven’t really talked to him yet, but I’m going to get going, apologize to him,β Griffen said. “I apologized to the coach [Zimmer] and Rick [Spielman] on what i said. I take full ownership of it. I still have to talk to Kirk [Cousins] and apologize to him about it.
Griffen’s signing with the team is certainly interesting. He will be a big boost for the team in the pass race. Zimmer said Griffen will be used as a situational player, as opposed to a starting defensive end.
That said, there is a question mark at the on-board rusher in front of Danielle Hunter. Griffen filling that void would be a big boost. Zimmer said Stephen Weatherly or DJ Wonnum would start, however.
