One of the best features to hit the iPhone was the optimized battery charge.
The idea behind this feature is that it reduces battery wear by temporarily limiting the maximum battery charge limit to 80 percent and adding only the last 20 percent in time to wake you up in the morning and start. to use your iPhone.
How does he know when to add that final 20%? Automatic learning on the device.
Pretty smart.
The technology was later added to MacBooks, Apple Watch, and even AirPods (interestingly, it was never added to the iPad or iPod touch).
But I wish I had more control over this feature.
Must read: Do you trust Apple?
First of all, unless you are like clockwork in your schedules, it doesn’t always work. Changes in when you go to bed, when you wake up, and even where you are (yes, he’s trying to learn your habits when you’re on the move) can put him off.
And it can take days for the iPhone to figure things out again.
Another problem with this feature is that it seems to only trigger once per day. So if I plug my iPhone in overnight, it will go off and keep me from draining my battery. But if I put my iPhone on charge later in the day and forget it, the battery is draining.
The same goes for my MacBook, Apple Watch, and AirPods.
It sounds silly.
What I would like Apple to add is more control over the battery charge. The ability to activate and maintain the optimized battery charge.
Also, being able to cap the battery charge at 80% is something I would be happy to live with, as the trade-off of having a longer battery life cycle is worth that 20% drop in capacity.
Note: There is an app called AlDente for macOS that gives you more control over battery charging. I have started testing this app now and will have more to say about it in the future.
Finally, a notification every time I put a device on charge asks me if I want to “upgrade” to a full charge.
It would be nice !
Hey Apple, is there still time to add this to iOS 15?
