There is a special meaning behind the name of Sterling Mahomes.
During an Instagram Q&A, Brittany Matthews shared the sweet story when one of her fans asked how she and Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes decided on a name for their now 6 month old daughter.
“When we got Silver (one of the couple’s companion dogs), we were trying to think of a name that would go with Steel (their other dog),” Matthews explained. “We thought about Sterling and I said no, when I have a girl someday I want that to be her name. So we suggested Silver instead for our puppy. So now we have Steel, Silver. and Sterling. “
Matthews and Mahomes, both 25, welcomed their first child Sterling together in February and they are both adjusting to family life of three. When a fan asked Matthews how her fiancé dealt with her new father, she replied that he was still in seventh heaven.
“He loves it and it’s the cutest! He loves it so much and it makes me so happy to see them hanging out and being the best friends in the world,” she wrote.
Matthews said she was very surprised at “how protective Mahomes was” as a father and said they hoped to have more children in the future. The proud parents shared many adorable photos of their baby girl this summer (like this one from her first football training camp), but they weren’t too keen on posting anything on social media. right now.
Still, the couple shared the first photo of Sterling’s face in June and she explained why the timing was right when answering a question from one of her Instagram followers.
“I felt like I couldn’t leave the house and when I did I had to hide and cover her. We were ready to start taking her place and enjoying it and we didn’t want to have to care about the people who take their pictures and post them, ”she said.
When an Instagram user said she felt guilty for leaving her baby at daycare while she was working, Matthews sent words of encouragement saying, “Never feel guilty, you have to do what you need to do! “
She revealed that she has a nanny who helps Sterling when needed. “No specific times, really just when I have something to do or we’re traveling!” she wrote.
The 25-year-old also described what she did to prepare her beloved dogs to meet their little sister.
“I sent things home from the hospital first to smell her,” she wrote. “When we got home, Patrick held her and we let them sniff her ass while she was in our arms.”
The couple haven’t let their dogs get too close to Sterling for a while, but they’ve warmed up to the idea more recently.
“We gradually let them around her more and more as we felt more comfortable and they started to figure out how to behave around her,” she wrote.
