No crying over spilled milk crates.
Just when you thought it was safe to come back to TikTok. Social media bozos have invented a silly trend called the “Milk Crate Challenge,” in which they attempt to break through a precarious pyramid of milk crates – usually with painful results. Apparently first featured on Facebook by Kenneth Waddell earlier this month, the Erasure Trend videos have totaled over 15.3 million collective views on TikTok.
The insane feat looks simple enough on paper: a person tries to walk through crates of milk stacked in a staircase formation from top to bottom.
However, the vast majority of attempts appear to end in a huge spill.
In this viral clip with 1.4 million views, we can see a series of aspiring “Jackass” trying to tiptoe – Pink Panther style – a veritable Mount Kilimanjaro of crates of milk. At various intervals, the rickety structure crumbles like a failed giant Jenga game, causing urban climbers to topple over from the steps with seemingly painful results.
Unsurprisingly, the mind-boggling hobby has metastasized on Twitter, where a video showed a practitioner shaking his back painfully after falling from the Matterhorn milk crate. The images are captioned: “People do it like they have the best health insurance…”
Did you think the challenge was not difficult enough on its own? How about this clip of a man trying to climb the makeshift staircase – only for a child to kick him when he’s halfway there.
Unsurprisingly, medical experts advise against participating in this ridiculous challenge.
“The Milk Crate Challenge is very dangerous and we are seeing a lot of orthopedic injuries as a result of falls,” Dr. Shawn Anthony, sports medicine orthopedic surgeon at Mount Sinai in New York, told “Today”. “Injuries can include wrist fractures, shoulder dislocations, ACL and meniscus tears, as well as life-threatening conditions such as spinal cord injuries. “
But a Houston woman rose to the challenge for all it was worth, successfully raising and lowering wobbly boxes while wearing lucite heels, becoming the big winner of the “Milk Crate Challenge”.
Alas, this isn’t the first potentially dangerous stunt to hit TikTok, which has seen it all, people taking doses of Benadryl inducing hallucinations madly drifting from their cars to the beat of the music.
