The Pixel 5a hasn’t even had its official release yet, but all eyes are on Google’s upcoming phones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. A recently tweeted screenshot of Google’s Hiroshi Lockheimer gives us a potential glimpse of the Pixel 6 Pro, its screen resolution, and its under-display fingerprint sensor.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google’s senior vice president for Android, Chrome OS, Google Play and more, took to Twitter late Monday night, as noted the XDA team – to share a fun experience with the Material You redesign of Android 12. Taking advantage of Material You’s tint to match your current wallpaper, Lockheimer showed how their phone is perfectly designed to match a photo of the engine. ‘an airplane, selected from her personal photo gallery.
However, it seems there is more to the story, as the tweet was deleted shortly after it was posted. For starters, the screenshot shows the Android 12 lock screen with an on-screen fingerprint symbol just below the clock. This almost certainly indicates a device with a fingerprint sensor under the display. Additionally, upon downloading the original uploaded screenshot, it was quickly discovered that it was taken on a device with a resolution of 1440 × 3200.
It is possible that this combination of specs is a coincidence, as there are actually a few devices that have an Android 12 Beta version available and have roughly the same specs, such as the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, OnePlus 9 Pro, and Oppo Find. X3 Pro. However, the mainstream theory is that this screenshot was captured on the upcoming Pixel 6 Pro, given the many Google-style icons on the screen. In fact, it’s not even the first time that a prominent Googler has apparently shared a screenshot of a Pixel device before its release.
Earlier this month, Google confirmed that the Pixel 6 series – currently slated for launch on Android 12 – will be its first phone to feature an under-display fingerprint sensor. As for the display, Google has shared that the Pixel 6 will have a 1080p display while the Pro model will upgrade to “QHD +”. That said, our APK Insight team previously confirmed that the Pixel 6 Pro will have a 1440p display, as shown in the screenshot above.
If this is the Pixel 6 Pro, at least one other minor detail can be fixed; namely, that the phone is capable of running on Verizon’s 5G network. That said, it looks like very few secrets remain with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, given that Google has confirmed and detailed both phones and the Google Tensor chip they will run on.
