One of the more enduring rumors about the iPhone 13 is that the range will have smaller notches than the iPhone 12 series, and the latest leak corroborates this, while adding specific dimensions to the notch and others. aspects.
Twitter leak Duan Rui recently shared what appears to be a schematic for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and svetapple.sk (an Apple-focused Slovak site) analyzed the image and compared it to cases apparently designed for the iPhone 13 range that ‘he recently obtained.
The result is that the notch on the iPhone 13 lineup is apparently about 24.7% narrower if this information is correct. The diagrams put it at 26.63mm, while the case measurements put it at a similar 25.57mm. For reference, the iPhone 12’s notch is 34.5mm wide.
The diagram and cases also show that the iPhone 13 lineup is about 0.1mm thicker than the iPhone 12 lineup, so the difference should be negligible. This small change could be due to bigger batteries, but that’s just speculation.
The biggest visual change, however, seems to be in the camera blocks, which appear to drop from 3.71cm in diameter on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini to 3.9cm on their successors. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max could both have a diameter of 4.49 cm on their camera blocks, compared to 3.71 cm for the iPhone 12 Pro and 4 cm for the ‘iPhone 12 Pro Max.
This is apparently at least in part due to the larger lenses, which, based on other accessories obtained by svetapple.sk, will be larger this year on each model.
Finally, the site claims that the volume and power buttons will be lower on the side of the iPhone 13 lineup. Based on the cases they received, this is a 6.2mm offset. on at least one model, but it is not clear from the site whether that same measure applies to all iPhone 13 models or not.
Analysis: subtle changes highlight one of the most likely upgrades
Overall, based on this information and most of the other things we’ve heard about the iPhone 13 lineup, we don’t expect any big visual changes. A narrower notch will definitely be appreciated, but in most cases it can be difficult to tell an iPhone 13 from an iPhone 12.
The biggest giveaway seems to be the camera, as noted above, and that reflects the fact that the camera is said to be getting bigger behind-the-scenes upgrades as well.
From an aperture change (likely allowing for better low-light performance) on some or all models, to an extended zoom range for the iPhone 13 Pro, and the supposed addition of sensor-shift OIS (optical image stabilization) to all models – except the Pro Max, which already has it in the iPhone 12 range.
We’ve also heard of bigger goals, additional items, etc. So if a lot of that takes place, the already excellent iPhone camera experience could be significantly improved with the iPhone 13 line. The cost is apparently a bigger camera block, but we think it’s worth it. is probably fair trade.
