Tiffany & Co.’s latest “About Love” campaign came out yesterday, and that was just too much! This is why you are reading this story today, the next day. I needed exactly 24 hours to process. I mean, this is the first Both the Carters, aka Beyoncé and Jay-Z, aka Mom and Dad, appeared together in a campaign. It’s the first once the iconic Tiffany Yellow Diamond (a rare 128-carat gemstone once worn by Lady Gaga and, before that, Audrey Hepburn, and before that, me, in my dreams) was worn in a campaign. And this is the first the time that many of us see the painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat from 1982, Equal to Pi.
The previously rarely seen paint – which happens to be a shade quite similar to Tiffany Blue – was previously in the private collection of another jewelry house, owned by the Sabbadini family. The painting appeared in a 2018 Magazine W story featuring the family at their home in Milan, and was apparently recently purchased by Tiffany, who plans to hang it in her New York flagship. In a statement, Tiffany & Co. also noted that the Carter partnership “reflects [its] continued support for underrepresented communities, ”and pledges $ 2 million for scholarship and internship programs for historically black colleges and universities.
“About Love” will launch worldwide on September 2 and the accompanying film (!) Directed by Emmanuel Adjei will launch on Tiffany’s website on September 15.
