The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly lost one of their first-round picks in 2021 for potentially the entire season. In their preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, rookie running back Travis Etienne suffered a serious injury at Lisfranc that will knock him out for several months and potentially all year, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL network.

Rapoport says the recovery schedule is a minimum of 12 weeks, so there is a possibility that he could return this season if all goes well in rehab. In that case, it’s technically possible for Etienne to return for Jacksonville’s Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers, but Lisfranc’s injuries are particularly difficult for the running backs. At this point, it seems more likely that he will undergo surgery and is focused on 2022.

Etienne rushed once for a yard and caught a pass for three yards before leaving the game in the second quarter on Monday due to his injury. The Clemson rookie also didn’t have many opportunities to show off his playmaking abilities in the Jaguars’ opener against the Cleveland Browns as he only ran once for two yards. and was targeted once in the passing game.

After selecting his varsity quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No.1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jacksonville selected Etienne with the No.25 pick. double threat during his time at Clemson and helped the Tigers win four ACC titles and one national title in 2018. According to the official Clemson website, Etienne is the NCAA FBS record. holder of most career games scoring a touchdown – 46 of his 55 career games. In total, he had 4,952 yards and 70 touchdowns in four seasons.

With Etienne likely out for the year, first-year head coach Urban Meyer will rely on James Robinson, Carlos Hyde and Dare Ogunbowale in the running game. This bad news gives Robinson’s fantastic value a huge boost this season. Robinson had an impressive rookie campaign last year.
