Crossed Kings III, a game entirely on buttons and menus and probably the last thing it’s exactly what you’d expect to make the switch from PC to consoles, with a release announced earlier today for Xbox Series X | S and PS5.
Your reaction to this news might be a laugh like that headline at the top, or maybe a fear of what it might sound like, but there’s actually a priority for that, and a pretty promising priority for that.
For starters, in 2019 Paradox released another of its games, the Intergalactic 4X. Stellaris, on console, and it was good. Allowed Stellaris is not as complicated as Crossed kings, but it still shows Paradox knows a thing or two about swapping keyboards and mice for controllers.
The next step is Civilization VI console release, also in 2019, what i said was “good” because even though there were issues with things like game speed, which really worried people with the port, how the interface would work.there was nothing to fear.
And finally, don’t forget that while Crossed Kings III has not lost any of its depth and complexity from II, it has cleaned up its interface, and so navigating its menus and priority items was a lot easier, which means navigating them using a controller should be a lot easier as well.

The game’s console trailer below shows some of that in action; While some menu screens will work just like on a PC, other systems make changes better suited to a controller, like using radial dials or pressing face buttons to reveal more information about something. ‘current on the screen. As Civilization, however, taming a sprawling interface is only half the battle, and it remains to be seen how well these consoles can handle the rest of the game. Crossed kings experience, including its performance. Limiting its release to next-gen systems is a promising start, though, and I guess we’ll all know together when the game has been released each time it’s released (sorry, no release date just yet).
