The long tease to come Saints Street the game is not a remake. It’s not a remaster. It’s a whole different “re”, a reboot. Developer Volition announced the news today during the Gamescom opening night live stream. It’s called, quite simply, Saints Street, and it will be released on all platforms next February. Here’s a trailer:
Saints Street, once a relatively popular series of open-world games in the vein of Grand Theft Auto, had a few quiet years. The last main game in the series, Saints Row IV, came out in 2013, a happy era in which two brand new machines, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, were poised to change the way we play. (Feel free to debate if they did.) Then came the standalone expansion of 2015, Saints Row: Get Out of Hell. Last year, publisher Deep Silver released a remastered version of Saints Row: the third. He looked good, but felt so, so old.
Whisper around a new one Saints Street the game dates back to 2019. But over the past week, they switched to a silent cry, thanks to tweets from Geoff Keighley and the official Saint Row social media feed. The official website for the series also listed a screenshot with the word “reboot” pasted in the center. Kotaku‘s Zack Zweizen noted that this probably has nothing to do with the Agents of chaos spin-off, which is set in an alternate timeline.
Like previous games, this new Saints Street is an open world action game. You play as members of a crime syndicate. You shoot guns and drive from the third person point of view. It takes place in the American Southwest and is full of explosions, fireworks, and neon colors. It all sounds like a lot of fun. The game will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and PC on February 25, 2022.
