Jeff Bezos criticizes his rivals from space and shares his vision in an interview in New York

Foust: This is a great long-term vision. How do you stay focused on this when there are all the daily distractions? When do you have an ecommerce business?

Bezos: Who also, by the way, is Blue Origin's business model right now, so that's very important. Every time you buy shoes, you contribute to the financing of Blue Origin. Thank you.

I like it a lot. This is not difficult. The vision is absolutely important, but it does not deserve your daily attention. You need a vision, then, it's a touchstone: it's something you can always come back to if you ever get confused. But most of all, your time should be spent on things happening today, this year, maybe in the next 2 or 3 years.

It does not take a lot of time to focus on things that go too far – you can have some in 5 to 7 years. I try to organize my personal time so as to live mainly between 2 and 3 years old.

We will announce our quarterly results Amazon, and [people will say]"Great neighborhood, congratulations!" And then I say, "Thank you". But what I really think, it's [how] this quarter was cooked and realized two or three years ago and, at the present time, senior executives of Amazon are working on a quarter that will occur in 2021, 2022 – that sort of thing.

I therefore always encourage people to have a powerful vision and to remain so stubborn. Do not allow anyone to separate you from your vision. But devote most of your energy and attention to things that take place over a period of two to three years. Then the sub-division will be a kind of emotional guide for this – the gut intuition guide – for these shorter-term activities.
