BTS Army Responds to Allegations of ‘Graphics Manipulation’

#BillboardApologizeToBTS is all the rage on Twitter today.

Fighting with the BTS army is usually a pretty risky decision. Joining a common cause – whether in support or in opposition – is easily one of the biggest strengths of the massive international fandom, and it turned out to be true again this week.

Twitter users may have noticed that BTS is all the rage on the platform today, after the hugely popular K-pop group appeared on Billboard’s latest cover. The group and the magazine are both mentioned in a new viral hashtag: #BillboardApologizeToBTS.

Most of the articles tagged criticized Billboard’s cover.

People specifically took issue with a question the outlet asked BTS about the group’s consistently high rankings on its music charts (five BTS albums have ranked No.1 on the Billboard 200 since 2018, which is not true. has not been produced since the Beatles more than 40 years ago, according to Billboard) and if fans have deliberately “manipulated” the numbers.

Billboard pointed out in their article that the same “graphics manipulation” question has been circulating online for quite some time, and that it stems from the BTS Army’s coordinated efforts to purchase physical albums and digital recordings in bulk.

During the Billboard interview, RM of BTS dismissed the idea that the dedication of the fan base distorts the group’s position in the charts.

“That’s a good question,” he said. “But if there’s a conversation within Billboard about what it should be like to be # 1, then it’s up to them to change the rules and make streaming weigh more on the rankings. . “

“Slam us, or our fans, for coming in at # 1 with physical sales and downloads, I don’t know if that’s true,” he continued. “It’s just like we’re easy targets because we’re a boy group, a K-pop group, and we have this great fan loyalty.”
