Trevor Lawrence is strong in the pre-season finale against the Cowboys

In a rather bland preseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars were a team that stood out. Not in a good way.

The Jaguars needed something good after two bad preseason games to start the Urban Meyer era, and rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence delivered.

Lawrence looked wonderful against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon. The No. 1 overall pick hadn’t looked bad, or excellent, in the first two preseason games, but he was nearly perfect in the final tune-up.

Trevor Lawrence has a good day

Lawrence finally had some time in his pocket and delivered the ball to his receivers, showing offensive comfort and a lot of composure.

Lawrence was 11 of 12 for 139 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. It was a passer rating of 154.5. The perfect passer rating is 158.3.

It’s only pre-season, but it was a positive development to see Lawrence look like the excited prospect we’ve been waiting for. His first touchdown pass was wide open in the field, but he found his man anyway and delivered a pass for a score. His fake shoulder pump could have helped open the game.

On his second touchdown, to exciting second-year receiver Laviska Shenault, he had good timing and hit Shenault on a nice pass outside the end zone for the score.

Not that anyone other than those with serious overreaction issues questioned Lawrence after two quiet preseason games, but it was nice to see him looking good ahead of the regular season.

The Jaguars start with the Houston Texans in Week One. They can feel a lot better going into this game after a much better performance against the Cowboys to end the preseason.
