LOS ANGELES – One of baseball’s most beloved stadium gifts is the bobblehead and Mookie Betts made his first Dodgers bobblehead night even more memorable than anyone could have imagined.
It was a family affair Monday night at Dodger Stadium as Betts mother Diana Benedict and brother Mark were on hand to celebrate her bobblehead night and Diana threw the first pitch in style. They had front row seats behind the plate to watch Betts and the Dodgers in a 2020 NLCS rematch against the Atlanta Braves.
When Betts went home in the third inning, he didn’t hesitate to apply his home run on a 1-1 fastpitch from Braves starter Drew Smyly. He traveled 378 feet to left field and toppled Dodger Stadium.
When he crossed the plate, he caught his mother cheering him on and jumping in excitement. He blew her a kiss as he returned to the canoe, sporting a smile for the first baseball coach of his life.
