Warren: Native Americans should be part of the conversation about repairs

Warren, the Democratic presidential candidate of 2020, made the statement to about 900 fans at the annual McIntyre-Shaheen 100 New Hampshire dinner.

Warren is to date the only candidate of 2020 to propose the concept of repair for the Amerindians.

"I think it's part of the conversation," she said to the question of whether they should receive some kind of relief. "I think that's an important part of the conversation," she added, according to the Post.

When asked to explain his position on the reparations, Warren gave little details but pointed to the "ugly history" of racism in America and his bill aimed at fighting discrimination in housing against black Americans, the newspaper reported.

"America has a horrible history of racism," Warren told participants, according to the newspaper. "We have to confront it head-on. And we need to talk about the right way to solve this problem and make a difference. "

"I have a housing bill that talks about more recent forms of discrimination that we also need to tackle head-on," she said.

Warren's bill, if passed, would increase the availability of low-rental rental housing across the country. He won the support of the members of the black congress caucus.

Warren's remarks were made while she continued to navigate the aftermath of her previous claims on the Native American heritage.

She apologized earlier this month for being identified as Native American.

Warren, who recently apologized to the Cherokee Nation for taking a DNA test showing that she was of Native American ancestry, said his apology should include identifying as Native American while being a professor at Harvard University and at the University of Pennsylvania.

Last year, Warren publicly revealed the results of a DNA test showing the existence of a distant American ancestor. This decision provoked negative reactions among some Native American groups.
