Happy National Margarita Day! Here are some special drinks in Long Beach • Long Beach Post

With an abundance of excellent Mexican restaurants in Long Beach, the National Margarita Day is the unofficial party to which we can all have a drink.

The tequila cocktail is one of the most popular in the United States, but its origins are a little mysterious. According to one story, the drink was invented by The owner of Mexican restaurant Carlos Herrera in 1938 who had prepared a cocktail for Ziegfeld's girl, Marjorie King, who was supposedly allergic to all alcohol except tequila. According to another legend, the Texan company Margaret Sames would have concocted this drink at a party held in his holiday home in Acapulco in 1948.

No matter where it comes from, it's a drink that deserves honor. And drunk. As part of the Margarita National Day, February 22nd, here are some places offering local offers.
