Marvel’s Midnight Suns was arguably a highlight of Gamescom’s recent opening night live; Although it was a cinematic reveal, it was a flashy title confirmed to come to Switch alongside other systems. Developed by Firaxis, possibly previous ports of big studio releases – XCOM 2 Collection and Sid Meier’s Civilization VI – helped persuade the overlords of the 2K edition that Nintendo’s platform was within reach.
Of course, Firaxis working on a Marvel game made us wonder what the actual game would look like, imagining a Marvel x XCOM storyline. Now there are a few new videos showcasing the game and it looks pretty interesting. First of all, here is the flash of the latest videos:
The video below gives a more real look and a preview of the gameplay. Battles are tactical, but you use cards you earn for various abilities. It is also possible to use teammates together for special moves that will be related to the mechanics of relationships; yes, that sounds a bit Fire Emblem-esque. There’s also a hub that serves as the home of the Midnight Suns, and that’s an area to explore, uncover more stories, and of course, build relationships with the characters.
Also of note, the development team reassured fans that the card-based mechanic will not lock game progress behind microtransactions.
It sounds like an intriguing setup to us, check it out below.
It goes without saying that the Switch port will require some compromises compared to the footage used in the trailers, but it is also possible to imagine a version scaled down to the system. For those of us who aren’t exactly keen on paying for cloud editions of games on Nintendo hardware, it’s nice to see a major cross-platform title like this coming to the Switch.
Are you excited for Marvel’s Midnight Suns ahead of its release next March? Let us know in the comments!
