The Lakers created an extra spot of alignment when they joined Ivica Zubac, Svi Mykhailiuk and Michael Beasley with Mike Muscala and Reggie Bullock.
And they have been associated with a host of names to fill their vacancies.
Carmelo Anthony was immediately the favorite considering his close friendship with LeBron James.
But he could also come in and add some bench shots to the Lakers.
However, with the departure of Zubac, he leaves the light Lakers at the center of the options.
They have already missed Enes Kanter, who chose to join the Portland Trail Blazers.
DeAndre Jordan has also been linked, but the New York Knicks have not yet bought it.
But it seems that they may have found their next star as a free agent.
That's what says Brandon Robinson, an NBA insider, who reports that Zach Randolph was spotted training on Lakers equipment.
"I came across Zach Randolph at the LA gym and he was in the Lakers tracksuit," an NFL player told Robinson.
The Sacramento Kings traded Randolph against the Dallas Mavericks, who immediately gave up.
The 37-year-old has not played a single minute for the Kings in his second season with them.
But Randolph can still be considered a solid option on the bench, averaging 16.6 points and 9.1 rebounds throughout his career.
The Lakers know that for a player to be eligible for the playoffs, a redemption must be completed by March 1st at the latest.
For Randolph, that will not be a problem and they could technically wait until the end of the regular season to sign in their last place.
But that will play in the hope of bringing DeAndre Jordan.
The 30-year-old has been playing big minutes for the Knicks since the Mavericks traded them.
But for a team that hopes to clinch a top pick in the NBA draw, letting Jordan go might make more sense.
