Ask all those who have been following smartphones for a long time with their favorite cameras and you will surely hear the name PureView. Nokia has asked him to represent some of his most impressive imaging materials over the years, such as the 41 megapixel Lumia 1020. The news of Nokia 9 and its set of five cameras was leaked several months ago, but we lacked details on its operation. Would we have a number of wide-angle and telephoto options? Would he try to do 3D photo magic? What we are getting is actually a lot simpler and, having spent some time using the Nokia 9 for myself, I dare say: awesome.
The back camera of the phone consists of five 12MP sensors: two in color and three monochrome. These are all f / 1.8 lenses and they all work at the same time; each time you press the shutter button, the five sensors capture your scene simultaneously, routing all that photo data to a special ASIC and processing that mountain of pixels to produce beautiful photos.
Admittedly, it takes a little while – post-shot processing is a bit longer than the traditional HDR you're probably used to (and for the record, the Nokia 9 does it too) – but the results are promising. to be just beautiful, as we have seen with the camera samples provided by Nokia in recent days.
If you opt for something more artistic, you have the option to take black and white photos, but otherwise you will exploit all this equipment for image processing. With the ability to shoot in RAW and edit on the phone with Lightroom, it is possible to optimize this output to get stylized and personalized photos. Although this does not make you a next Leibovitz overnight, you have plenty of time to shine.
The main line of cameras is the big news here, but it includes a whole phone, including a 5.99-inch OLED display with built-in fingerprint scanner, 20 MP front and 128GB of storage as standard. I'm sure a lot of people who were hoping a lot of this phone will be a little upset by the decision to take an old Snagdragon SoC 845, but I hope it will not be a headache.
It will take some time to get the Nokia 9 PureView to try and really see what his cameras can do, but here are some examples to whet your appetite. My shots are not as impressive as what a professional could do, or even an amateur with a little more practice, but I think they always talk about the phone's potential.
HMD intends to sell the Nokia 9 PureView for around $ 700, or 600 euros. The device will arrive in the United States, but we are still waiting for full details on availability.
