It's been more than two years since Apple launched its AirPods in 2016 – $ 159 wireless headphones that automatically pair with iPhones, iPads and Macs and work with Siri.
But the AirPods were and are more than an interesting but still expensive substitute for wired headphones, announced by Apple alongside its first iPhone without headphone jack. They have also introduced some new convenient features, such as the ability to automatically pause music as soon as it is removed from the ear.
Now, however, competition is intensifying rapidly for Apple, while companies like Samsung continue to offer attractive alternatives. As such, Apple would be working on two new AirPod pairs: a minor update that could be launched later this year and a redesigned model planned for 2020, according to TF International Securities' often-reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo . The release launched in 2019 should include Bluetooth upgrades and support wireless charging.
Here is an overview of other features we would like to see in future AirPod iterations.
