The Memphis Express opted to start Christian Hackenberg as quarterback for the third straight game on Saturday, but head coach Mike Singletary ended his position on Hackenberg at halftime.

Singletary turned to former Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger after two interceptions by Hackenberg helped them score 9-0 against Orlando and Mettenberger responded with 120 yards and two touchdowns.

"You absolutely have to support your guys. I've already been in its place and it's not easy, "said Mettenberger, via the AFA website. "You have to be ready to ride. The reason I have to play is unfortunate, but I'm really excited to play again. … it was as usual for me. It's a professional sport. You must always be ready, whether it is the backup copy and the third part and the second part. We were all taught this from an early age.

It was not enough to win his first Memphis victory in the Alliance of American Football, while Orlando held out for a 21-17 win and Singletary did not name Mettenberger as a starter for next week. Saturday's efforts do not allow Mettenberger to make his first start since the 2015 season.
