A The former US lawyer appointed under the Obama administration has said that the report of special advocate Robert Mueller could be delayed by a possible investigation of Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner.
According to reports released last week, Attorney General William Barr was preparing to announce as early as next week that Mueller had concluded his investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election and on possible collusion with the Trump campaign.
Justice officials reacted by explaining to several media outlets that Mueller's report would not be submitted as quickly.
Former US lawyer Barbara McQuade speculated on Saturday that the redactions in Mueller's court records could mean prosecutors are trying to find out whether President Trump's son and son-in-law have been lying to Congress.
"One area that at least seems to be under surveillance by Robert Mueller is whether other people have lied to Congress," she told MSNBC, highlighting the redactions in the memo of the sentence pronounced by the Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen. McQuade left his US legal position for the Eastern District of Michigan in March 2017 at Trump's request.
Cohen pleaded guilty to having lied to Congress on the negotiation of a Trump tower in Moscow.
"I would think that if others were lying about it [or] Any other questions, then we could see accusations against them. That would include Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner, "she said.
In 2017, Trump Jr. told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he knew very little about the potential Moscow project.
Trump Jr. and Kushner, the president's son-in-law and advisor, also attended the Trump Tower meeting in June 2016 with a Kremlin-related lawyer based on the promise to dirty Hillary Clinton, his rival in the 2016 general election.
