A 6-year-old girl died on Sunday while walking at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, reports CBS Denver. The incident happened on the Haunted Mine Drop attraction, according to the park.
The victim was visiting the park with his family, originally from Colorado Springs, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. Walt Stowe, spokesperson for the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, said Monday officials are investigating the crash, CBS Denver reports.
Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire said park workers initiated first aid until paramedics arrived and determined the girl was dead, according to the Associated Press.
The identity of the victim was not disclosed.
The park said it would be closed Monday and Tuesday due to the girl’s death.
Park general manager Nancy Heard told CBS Denver in a statement that an investigation was underway. “We are deeply saddened and ask you to keep the family of the deceased in your thoughts and prayers,” she said.
The park said in a statement on Sunday that “out of respect and concern for all parties involved, we will not have further comments until all details are confirmed.”
According to the park’s website, runners would be strapped to a seat and then dropped “110 feet into the dark depths of Iron Mountain in what looks like a free fall.” The ride has a minimum height requirement of 46 inches.
