Getting into solid animal waste is the ultimate SNAFU for robot vacuums. They can’t avoid it or pick it up, let alone get rid of it. Unfortunately, the most likely outcome here is that a robot will spread more of the damage already done to your floor. What if a robot vacuum could avoid these unpleasant surprises? Enter the new iRobot Roomba j7 Plus at $ 849.
According to iRobot, the j7 Plus is smart enough to recognize and avoid animal waste. A representative of the company explained to me that “iRobot trained [[the vacuum’s]]ML (machine learning) algorithms using hundreds of thousands of images of real, fake and simulated dog and cat waste. offers customers the Official Pet Owner’s Promise (POOP). ”Yes, you read that right.
Essentially, this means that iRobot will replace any Roomba j7 Plus for free if it fails to detect animal droppings and gets dirty as a result. Of course, there are limitations and caveats to this offer. On the one hand, the pledge is valid for up to one year from the date of purchase from the original owner.
Second, the offer covers solid waste from pets alone. If your furry friend drops wetter deposits (like diarrhea, vomit, or urine), you’re out of luck. Still, iRobot says the vacuum will alert you when it encounters any items of concern. He will present them as pictures for review, including anything your pet may have left behind.
If the Roomba j7 Plus lives up to these claims, it will be a remarkable accomplishment. Some advanced robot vacuums, such as the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8, can avoid traps like shoes and cords. Neither Ecovacs nor any other robot vacuum – other than iRobot – can boast of avoiding robotic poop.
The Roomba j7 Plus isn’t just designed to handle unsavory situations. As iRobot’s latest flagship vacuum, the product comes with all of the company’s latest bells and whistles. This includes the latest iRobot Genius 3.0 software and advanced navigation features. The main capabilities of Genius 3.0 are automatic cleaning when you are away, suggesting room names when mapping your home, and calculating estimates for cleaning time.
Like other iRobot machines such as the Roomba s9 Plus, the Roomba j7 Plus comes with a “clean base” charging station. It allows the robot to empty its own trash as well as to keep its battery charged. The dock also deposits dirt in a handy vacuum bag. iRobot claims this vacuum bag can last up to 60 days without needing to be replaced.
If the Roomba j7 Plus sounds like a floor cleaning dream come true, then you are in for a treat. The model is on sale today in the United States, Canada and Europe. It is expected to arrive for purchase in other major markets throughout 2022.
