Major League Soccer will begin its playoff season on November 20, with its first broadcast on Thanksgiving Day and seven teams per conference in 12 knockout knockout games played over two weeks, culminating with the 2021 MLS Cup on December 11 at 3 pm. h ET on ABC, UniMás and TUDN, TSN and TVA Sports.
The playoffs will see each of the 13 games broadcast nationwide on the following networks: ABC, Fox Sports, Fox Deportes, Univision’s UniMás, TUDN, TSN and TVA Sports.

As in the 2019 season, the seeded team gets a pass in the first round.
The seven teams from each of the Eastern and Western Conferences will advance to the playoffs based on points obtained during the regular season.
Ties in the standings will be broken according to the following criteria: total number of wins per match; goal differential per match; goals per game; the fewest disciplinary points per match; away goal differential per away game; away goals per away game; home goal differential per home game; home goals per home game; drawing of lots or drawing of lots.
In the event that all 27 teams do not complete the season with the same number of games played, qualification for the MLS Cup playoffs will be determined on a points per game basis.
MLS clubs must play at least 30 games to qualify for the playoffs, unless a club is unable to reach 30 games due to one of the following factors: a club’s opponent is unable to play a match due to COVID-19 protocols; MLS, in its sole discretion, including for competitive reasons, has decided not to reschedule a match; the club has seen games postponed or canceled for other reasons.
Each round, including the MLS Cup Final, will be played in a knockout format.
The respective winners of the East and West Conferences will receive passes in the first round, leaving the No.2 seed against the No.7 seed, the No.3 against the No.6 and the No.4 playing the n ° 5.
The second round will see the No. 1 seeds face off against the winner of Game 4 against No.5, while the winners 3 against 6 and 2 against 7 face off.
The highest seeded seeds will have home court advantage in every game throughout the playoffs, including the MLS Cup Final.
