Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday condemned the Texas abortion law as “patently unconstitutional” and called for the Roe v. Wade of the Supreme Court be codified into law.
Harris lambasted the Supreme Court for failing to block the Texas Heartbeat Act, or SB 8, which she described as “essentially an abortion premium law”. The law, that the republicans Governor Greg Abbott signed in May, prohibits aborting a baby after a heartbeat can be detected.

Harris also singled out Mississippi and New Mexico for their abortion restrictions and said his roundtable would discuss abortion laws nationwide. “We are going to talk about the United States and what we need to do collectively, all of us, to protect the women of our country and protect their constitutional rights,” she said.
Based on the Texas law, Harris said, “Today, however, the United States Department of Justice spoke out loud and said that this law is patently unconstitutional.”
Harris added that the administration is targeting 22 other states that it says unconstitutionally restrict abortion.
