The legendary Star wars Roleplay Knights of the Old Republic gets a remake of the PS5, Sony announced today during its fall 2021 showcase.

The remake is being developed by Aspyr, who previously worked on the Mac, Android and iOS ports of the original. Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel, Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Sony Interactive Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games will also be working on the remake.

It is missing from the BioWare announcement – which initially developed Knights of the Old Republic in 2003 – but doesn’t appear to be involved in the new release, although Sony’s announcement post says Aspyr recruited part of the original development team to work on the remake.

Located thousands of years before the Star wars movie theater, Knights of the Old Republic (Where DIRTY, as it is known to fans) is considered one of the greatest Star wars games never made, pitting players against the villainous Darth Revan and his Sith Empire. The original game was followed by a sequel (developed by Obsidian Entertainment) and the long-running game Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake will be an exclusive console for the PlayStation 5 when it launches, although there are no details on a release window yet.

Update September 9 at 4:25 p.m.: Added launch exclusivity details.
