As Google moves closer to its goal of 100 games coming to Stadia in 2021, the platform is losing a title that was due to arrive next year. Tchia goes from a Stadia exclusive to a PlayStation and Epic Games exclusive.
Tchia is an open world adventure game that allows players to take control of animals and objects on an island and features a fully playable ukulele. It sounds like a fun time, but the game’s development has encountered a glitch behind the scenes in recent months.
A tropical open-world adventure. Climb, hover, swim and sail with your boat around a beautiful archipelago in this physics-based sandbox. Use Tchia’s Soul Jumping ability to take control of any animal or object you can find, and Jam on your fully playable ukulele. A game inspired by New Caledonia.
When it was announced in late 2020, Tchia was revealed to be a Steam exclusive on PC and Stadia as a console. No other platform was announced at the time. Today, however, the developers announced at PlayStation Showcase that the title will arrive on PlayStation 5 next year, adding on Twitter that it will also arrive on the Epic Games Store.
In a follow-up tweet, it is revealed that Tchia’s plans to come to Stadia “didn’t work out.” Apparently the developers had to ‘adapt quickly’ to a PlayStation / Epic version, implying that the version could have been traded due to changes from Google, possibly related to the new Pro revenue model, but this is only our speculation. Either way, the developers say the new release plan “allows us to keep working on the game and make it the best it can be.”
