Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva called a hate crime an egg-throwing attack on black Republican recall candidate Larry Elder by a white woman wearing a gorilla mask and blamed the “wake-up privilege” for liberal silence on the issue.
QUESTION: How is this not a hate crime? ANSWER: Because ‘wake-up privilege’ means that a white woman can wear a gorilla mask and attack a black man without fear of being called a racist. Where is the outrage of our politicians? Villanueva tweeted Thursday.
Villanueva said he plans to investigate the attack as a hate crime because the woman was wearing a gorilla mask, the Washington Examiner reported.
Elder, the Republican frontrunner in the election who could remove Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from office next week, was rushed from the Venice area to Los Angeles on Wednesday when the campaign shutdown became confrontational near a homeless. He was heckled and the gorilla masked woman on a bicycle narrowly missed his head. Elder said some of the rowdies shouted racial epithets.

Newsom has remained silent on the attack and has yet to respond to Fox News’ question of whether he would condemn the attack.

The candidate himself was not so quick to label the egg thrower as a racist.
“I’m not someone who pulls out the race card like Barack Obama does, like Al Sharpton does, like CNN does, like Black Lives Matter does,” Elder told Fox News Thursday. “Maybe he was just an idiot. Maybe he was just a jerk. Maybe he was just someone who didn’t like Larry Elder.”
“All I know is if I was a liberal and someone wearing a gorilla mask who was a white female threw an egg at me, the left would cry out systemic racism,” he said. for follow-up.
