Following the new reveal at PlayStation Showcase, Square Enix sent out a press release with new assets and information on Forspoken.

First up, we see new screenshots, new key artwork, and new renderings for Frey and the villainous Tanta Sila, in addition to Frey’s sensitive bracelet simply named “Cuff”.

You can check out the gallery below.

We then learn more about what we can expect from the gameplay.

“During her journey, Frey will learn to cast and harness dozens of different types of magic and cast powerful spells as she travels through the beautiful but cruel land of Athia. Frey’s quest in Athia will take her through a variety of diverse environments where she will use magically enhanced parkour. This dynamic, acrobatic movement, enhanced by Frey’s mystical abilities, allows her to magically sink, glide, and float through Athia’s vast landscapes in a swift and fluid manner.

Other cast members have also been revealed:

Other key Forspoken characters are highlighted in the trailer, including Frey’s companion “Cuff,” a sensitive magic bracelet, voiced by actor Jonathan Cake (Stargirl), who helps him navigate in the sprawling landscapes of Athia. Players are also introduced to Tanta Sila, a mad and evil ruler who is Athia’s strongest and most formidable Tanta, or matriarch, as she and Frey clash In an explosive and action-packed battle. Portrayed and voiced by actress and musician Janina Gavankar (True Blood), Tanta Sila’s debut offers fans a glimpse of the formidable foes that await them in Athia. Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) and Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick) also make appearances as Johedy and Auden, other Athians who befriend and aid Frey on his journey.

We also learn that Gary Whitta created the original concept, while Amy Hennig of Uncharted fame developed the concept for the story in 2019.

Allison Rymer (Shadowhunters) and Todd Stashwick (Devil Inside) then took the helm as lead editors. We receive feedback from both:

“Writing sorry was a magical experience, ”said Rymer. “The main character Frey is strong, complex and very approachable. I am delighted that players are connecting with it. Stashwick added: “Like Frey, it has been a long and incredible journey for us. I’m glad people are finally venturing through the story we’ve built. I’m so proud to be part of this team, to give a contemporary and fun touch to the fantasy genre.

Last but not least, Bear McCreary (God of War and The Walking Dead TV series) and Garry Schyman (Bioshock series) composed the score for Forspoken.

The game arrives in Spring 2022 for PS5 and PC.
