To activate it, go to settings. On Google.com, the settings link is in the lower right corner. On a search results page, it’s in the upper right corner below the gear button.

Once on the settings page, click on the new “Appearance” section and select “dark mode”. If you don’t have an Appearance section, Dark Mode has not yet been deployed to you. That’s it!

Once you’ve enabled dark mode, you can switch between modes through this new theme option in settings. (Maybe Google will start showing it to everyone soon?)

It has finally happened: Google.com is going dark mode. What was once the realm of janky site-themed browser extensions can now be activated directly from the Google home page. An official support forum article says dark mode in Google desktop search is rolling out starting today and will reach all users “within the next few weeks.”
Whether or not you have dark mode right now depends on your Google account. I have the new mode on two of my four Google accounts (don’t ask), including both a personal account and a paid Google Workspace account. To activate the feature, go to the settings of Google.com. On the home page, this page is linked at the bottom left and on a search results page, it is under the gear button at the top right. On the settings page, if dark mode has been applied to your account, you will see a new “Appearance” section where you can enable the style.
After enabling dark mode, you’ll get a quick theme selector in the gear button, allowing you to easily switch between dark and light modes. The dark setting seems to work on all sections of Google.com like news, shopping, books, pictures, etc.
If you don’t have an “Appearance” section in settings, you don’t have dark mode yet. To keep waiting!
