The Philadelphia Eagles released their third and final official injury report on Friday ahead of their Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Two players were excluded: Rodney McLeod and Landon Dickerson.
McLeod has been limited in practice since leaving the PUP list. He’s still coming back from the ACL injury he suffered in December of last year. McLeod’s absence is significant as 1) the Eagles have no proven depth behind him and 2) the Falcons have passing weapons that will challenge the Philly secondary.
On the first point, it will probably be K’Von Wallace or Marcus Epps who will start in place of the veteran captain. Wallace is believed to have more advantages, but he hasn’t done much to stand out in the camp other than a groin injury. Epps has more experience than Wallace but has limited talent.
It is currently unclear how long McLeod will be away. Maybe he can come back in the next week or two. Even if this is the case, one has to wonder how long it could take him to reach 100%. McLeod was not at his best in 2019 when he suffered an ACL tear in 2018. It took him until 2020 to get back on track. Will the 31-year-old be able to recover faster this time around?
Dickerson has been limited in practice since leaving the PUP list. He’s still coming back from the ACL injury he suffered in December of last year. He could eventually become the best backup home offensive lineman later this season, but for now he’s still striving to come back. Nate Herbig is arguably the best substitute at guard and center in the meantime.
One player has been deemed DOUBT: Davion Taylor.
The second-year linebacker was limited on Wednesday and Thursday before being sold out on Friday. Taylor is not expected to have a major defensive role even though he Is playing since he missed so much time at training camp. He could at least play in special teams.
Brandon Brooks is expected to start at right-back despite being limited to training all week. Good news.
