ATHENS – Georgia QB Carson Beck is set to make the first start of his career on Saturday against UAB.
This is according to Beck’s high school coach in a report from Banner-Herald’s of Athens Marc Weiszer Friday.
The move comes after a week where Beck shared or took most of the squad’s shots with the No.1 unit. Georgia coach Kirby Smart has not officially announced the move, but the head coach 6th grade said earlier this week that Beck was the team’s No.2 quarterback.
According to insiders, UGA starter JT Daniels suffers from an upper body injury that limits his ability to throw without further injuring himself. Insiders describe the injury as “minor,” but it looks like the Bulldogs are unwilling to take a risk playing the California native.
It’s unclear how long Daniels will be out of the Bulldogs roster. Georgia, number 2, face the UAB this weekend before hosting South Carolina on September 18 in their first conference game of the year. A trip to Vanderbilt arrives a week later. Last week Georgia, No.5, beat No.3 Clemson 10-3 in Charlotte.
Beck was considered a four-star prospect in high school where he won a state title in Florida’s top ranking in 2018. He wore a red blouse last season, but played in the fourth quarter for the resounding victory Bulldogs in Missouri. Georgia also has former starter Stetson Bennett on the roster. Bennett has spent much of his training time in second with Beck over the past few weeks, Kirby said this week.
