Waste. Tottenham Hotspur went to Crystal Palace, a side many believed to be relegated to the preseason, unbeaten and top of the table. Then the game started and Spurs laid an egg. Missing a number of key players, Spurs played terribly from the kick-off. Eric Dier was injured early and had to be substituted, Japhet Tanganga was sent off for two quick yellow cards, Ben Davies was signaled for a handball penalty which Wilfried Zaha converted, and new boy Edsonne Edouard scored two handsome Second to half goals under as Palace won 3-0 at home at Selhurst Park.
Pain. Here are my match notes, for what it’s worth.
Match the ratings and reactions
- Just a disastrous and trashy performance from Tottenham, back and forth. Foot trash.
- Hugo Lloris owes Eric Dier dinner (or more than that) for rolling a bad ball in front of him which directly led to Eric’s injury. It was horrible.
- The first half in a nutshell: dark. Dull football, little possession, no shooting, even off target. With Kane stranded on an island, midfielders can’t even make simple passes.
- The interaction between Zaha and Tanganga could easily have resulted in two reds, there was a LOT going on there – head butt attempts, hands to the neck, shoving, etc. In the end, two yolks seem right.
- Tanganga’s second yellow was absolutely deserved. Maybe it was a soft card, but considering what happened just before, you can’t say it wasn’t a bad tackle. You can not do this.
- It was the easiest handball penalty call you’ve ever seen. What was Davies doing?
- It seems a little maddening that Zaha was the one to score the penalty when he probably should have been sent off (along with Japhet tbf) in this side incident.
- Edouard scoring twice (good finishes though) with his first touch is just the icing on this shitty cake. Maybe Spurs should have tried to sign him.
- Nuno has a LOT to answer after that terrible starting XI and his subs.
- Tottenham sucks. Go for a walk, you will feel better.
