AUBURN, Alabama – It’s game day at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn plays the official foe of FCS Alabama State at 11 a.m. at Jordan = Hare Stadium.
Phillip Marshall, Jason Caldwell, Mark Murphy, Nathan King and Keith Niebuhr will provide pre-game news. The notebook will be regularly updated until the start of the game, which will be televised by the SEC network.
TWO OFFENSIVE WEAPONS RELEASED

Will DAVIS get his first shot playing QN FOR AUBURN
Will freshman quarterback Dematrius Davis, described as electrifying during preseason, play today’s game against Alabama State? There are reasons he could play and reasons he couldn’t.
Davis can play up to four games and still be in a red shirt, but do Auburn’s coaches want to use any of those four games against an outmatched opponent. Neither head coach Bryan Harsin nor offensive coordinator Mike Bobo gave any clues.—Philippe Marshall
AUBURN IS A HUGE HORN FAVORITE
How much of a lag is expected when Auburn plays against Alabama State today? Auburn is a favorite with 49 points. In Auburn’s only previous game against Alabama State, they won 63-9 in 2018.
Auburn beat Akron 60-10 last Saturday. Alabama State beat the Miles 14-13 in overtime at Montgomery.—Philippe Marshall
FORMER AUBURN STAR SAID PLAYERS WILL BE PAID
Former All-SEC nose guard Auburn Tommy Jackson, now a professor at the University of West Georgia, believes college football programs will ultimately have no choice but to pay players beyond what is now legal.
“Something new is going to have to be born,” Jackson said. “I think we’re going to have to focus on the payment to play. Schools are going to have to pay these guys whether they like it or not. They have to do it in a way that makes sense.—Philippe Marshall

CAM NOT READY FOR THE END OF HIS FOOTBALL CAREER
Former Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton, who led Auburn to the 2010 national championship, admitted he was surprised when he was cut off by the New England Patriots. But he swore that his career was not over.
