On the day their massive “Black Album” reissue finally arrived, Metallica visited Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about their classic LP from 1991, perform two Metallica songs in a scenic setting and read 1 Star Amazon customer reviews on the album.

While the “Black Album” is considered one of the most acclaimed albums of all time – and number 235 on Rolling stonefrom the list of the 500 greatest albums of all time – apparently the praise is not universal. In a “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets” style segment, the Metallica quartet sat down to read real less stellar “Black Album” reviews written by Amazon clients.

“This is by far one of the most heinous crimes ever committed against music,” Lars Ulrich read.

Kirk Hammett continued, “Face you folks, this $ ucks album. Anyone who thinks that horrible, atrocious, self-titled CD ‘$ uck-o-rama’ is worth four or five stars must be dead of mind after smoked crack.

James Hetfield added: “This album sucks, sad but true! I bought it when it came out and was horrified when I listened to it, threw it off a bridge and saw a truck smash it.

The group also sat down with Kimmel to talk about the album, including how Metallica got his nickname “Black Album”, their Zoom sessions during the pandemic and how Hetfield was moved to tears by Elton John’s praise of “Nothing Else Matters” – “One of the greatest songs ever written”, a declared John – the day before The Howard Stern Show.
