Cam Newton admitted he was “absolutely” surprised to be cut off by the New England Patriots, so you can’t help but wonder how he must be feeling now.
It seems no one else is interested in the veteran quarterback either.

As relayed by Sam Robinson of Pro Football Rumors, Newton is apparently not on many teams’ radar (if any) until Sunday’s full first week lineup. Newton, 32, has just had an average season and was released after rookie Mac Jones won the Patriots starting job.
Newton said he would have accepted the QB2 job in New England – but added that the situation may not be ideal.
“If they had asked me, ‘Cam, we’re going to give the team to Mac, you’re going to be the second channel; we expect you to be all and certain to guide him through this term.’ ‘would have said,’ Absolutely, ‘”Newton said in a YouTube Live video, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “But listen, the truth is this: [Jones] would have been uncomfortable.
“… Mac Jones didn’t beat me. But I would have been a distraction. If they had given him the lead, they knew what he would have had if it hadn’t been for success. you.”
Newton has never been a replacement in the NFL. A few teams that said they were interested (like Washington and Dallas) made it clear that they were happy with their current QB harvests. Still, there might be room for him, somewhere, still.

“No matter how long Newton Pats was in office, he has seen his stock drop dramatically in recent years,” Robinson wrote. “The former Heisman winner is running out of time to get his career back on track. But by confirming retirement was not on the table, Newton will surely surface when quarterback injuries occur this season.”
