CHICAGO – Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward left Saturday’s game with San Francisco in the fourth inning after slipping in the third and receiving a knee kick to the head by Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford.
Heyward was at the start when Crawford lined up short runner David Bote and pitched to first baseman Brandon Belt. Bote beat him for a single in the infield, then Heyward tried to move up to third.
Heyward beat Belt’s throw to Crawford, which covered the sack. But as Crawford took the throw running and jumped over Heyward, his knee hit Heyward in the head.
Heyward lay there for a few minutes as he was examined by medical staff. He got up and walked towards the canoe, accompanied by a trainer.
