In the Royal Family’s latest attempt to show the world they are not racist, a senior official told Britain’s Channel 4 that Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the royal family support the Black Lives Matter movement.

CNN Reports that Ken Olisa, London’s first black Lord Lieutenant, was asked about the Royal Family’s feelings about BLM in an interview that aired Friday on Channel 4. The Royal Family has since been in hot water about of the race. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told Oprah In regards to cases of racism and colourism they witnessed behind the walls of Buckingham Palace.

During the interview, Olisa said that the royals are open to talking about racism, which ones… are they? Apart from Prince William and Duchess Kate condemn racism Black players of England’s national football team clashed after losing to Italy in the Euro 2020 final, there aren’t many other examples of the royal family being too willing to talk about race as described by Olisa. But I digress.

From CNN:

“I have discussed this whole race issue with the Royal Household, especially in the past 12 months since the George Floyd incident,” he said.

“It’s a hot topic of conversation. The question is, what more can we do to bind society to removing these barriers. They [the royals] are passionately concerned with ensuring that this one nation is bound by the same values. “

Olisa was also asked if the royal family supports BLM. “The answer is easily yes,” he said.

If this interview gives you an impression of “We can’t be racist because we have a black friend,” you’re not the only one. NBC News reports than a Momodou Taal, who hosts a podcast that focuses on race and identity, said Olisa’s interview was “clearly” a response to Meghan and Harry’s accusations.

More from NBC News:

“It is not surprising that the family has accusations of racism against them. It is the remnant of a brutal British Empire that never fully recognized its role in perpetuating racism around the world, ”Taal said. “So much damage control that they tried to do since, for me and for a lot of people, we still see the family in the lens that Harry and Meghan were given to them.”

Taal said that since Floyd’s death there has been an attempt to “modernize” the image of the family.

“They (the family) do not represent modern Britain,” he said, “They represent what Britain was at the height of colonization, and that image will forever be attached to them. “
