Time flies as we all know, and today Apple announced that the 2013 16GB iPod touch has been declared obsolete worldwide. In an attempt to put iOS in multiple hands (and at a lower price), Apple took the fifth-generation 32GB iPod touch and halved the storage capacity while removing the rear camera from the device. As a result, the 2013 16GB iPod touch sold for $ 229, which was a significant savings of $ 70 over the $ 299 cost of the 32GB model (which was the previous low-end model).
So what does it mean that the device is obsolete in Apple’s eyes? This means the company will no longer be servicing the 16GB iPod touch, and product parts will no longer be available for third-party repair companies to order.
2013 iPod touch 16 GB is now obsolete according to Apple
The 16GB iPod touch came with a 4-inch display with 640 x 1136 resolution. It was powered by the Apple A5 chipset and came with half a GB of RAM. Apple shipped the product with its EarPods and it was offered in black with a silver back.
Apple will first name a device vintage after it has stopped selling it for at least five years, but less than seven years. Users can still benefit from service and spare parts for a vintage Apple product. After seven years, the device may be listed as obsolete. Once this designation is given, the product can no longer be repaired or maintained.
The latest version of the iPod Touch was the seventh generation model that was released through the Apple Online Store in May 2019.
