The New Orleans Saints outscored Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers for half the game, taking a 17-3 lead at the break. It’s not because of new quarterback Jameis Winston or Alvin Kamara; it is because of the talent they have on the offensive and defensive lines.
The New Orleans offensive line carried the team to this point, which allowed the Saints to control possession time. (The Packers had just three possessions in the first half!) Winston was efficient, leading two touchdowns in 15 games. Saints coach Sean Payton decided to move the ball in different ways, also using Tony Jones Jr. and Taysom Hill in the running game.
Rodgers had just 69 yards in the first half, and the Saints’ defense played well as a collective unit. The linemen put pressure on Rodgers while the lean but talented secondary held on.
