Fortnite season 7 finale sees return of fan favorite cube

Fortnite players have spent the entire seventh season of the game dealing with a growing alien threat. Now is the time for the aliens to face our threat as we storm the alien mothership and unleash dangerous-looking glowing cubes in the final explosive event of the season.

Even though it was my first time attending a Fortnite final event, having only entered the game recently, I’m well aware of the massive, unknowable purple cube saga that fans affectionately refer to as Kevin. Since its first appearance in 2018, born of a mysterious fault, to its explosion, which briefly transported players to another dimension, Kevin’s saga has been one of the most interesting things to come out of Epic’s Battle Royale game since it came to life and started devouring gamers in 2017. Gamers love the cube. They want to know where is the cube, what he thinks, and if he thinks of them.

In today’s Season 7 Special Final Event, we found Kevin. And Kevin has friends.

In the last moments of Fortnite Season 7, players (including myself) were teleported aboard the alien mothership that hovered above the island for a final assault. The enigmatic Dr. Sloan blanketed part of the island’s landmass with explosives, and we, the players, were needed to arm the explosives. After a dramatic run through the bowels of the mothership, we found ourselves in a large, empty room. As Dr. Sloan began to cock the explosives, a large cube-shaped object rose from the center of the room.

Harnessing the power of our backpacks, Dr. Sloan managed to drain poor Kevin of his power, leaving us standing in the room with his creepy gray cubic corpse. The good doctor arms the explosive charges and delivers bad news. Rather than teleport us home and risk the cube escaping, she let us die in the ship. Pity.

After running around the room in a blind panic for a bit, we the players discovered that our backpacks had the capacity to charge Kevin. As we regrouped, we rekindled the cube, now blue instead of purple, and the room we were trapped in began to rise into the air. Then an explosion. Then fall. Fortnite Season 8 begins tomorrow at 5 a.m. EST. If those last moments were any indication, it would be a glowing cubic city there.
